HIRE19 workshop – Cyber scams and business protection

There is a security cost to having a digital footprint – your business is open to hackers and scammers who may pick up elements of your business and brand, like logos and invoices, copy them and send them out in an online scam attempt. For example: this email recently came across one of the HRIA’s desktops. (pic here Coates Hire scam email)

Because the HRIA has seen an increase in this type of scam email and cyber security is at the top of everyone’s minds as the Internet of Things (IoT) generates speed and traction within our industry, the HRIA is hosting a workshop at HIRE19, led by Jason LeGuier, to discuss how members can protect themselves.

“Electronic scams are like any other kind of fraud; it’s just another iteration of a crime thousands of years old where people pretend to be something they’re not in order to scam money from you,” Jason said.

“However, technology makes these scams more effective and successful in targeting people.”

Jason will talk us through the scope of protection and the need for cyber security at a workshop presentation during HIRE19.

“Scammers and hackers are looking for easy targets; those without protection or ‘cheap locks’. The message is: Don’t be a soft target,” Jason said.

“Security (both physical and digital) starts with people. Attend this workshop to learn and understand how to better protect yourself as businesses continue to become more connected,” Jason said.
