Chadwicks’ Shane Mathias tells us what “giving” at Christmas means to him

As part of an ongoing drive and passion to engage with the community and aid homelessness, Shane Mathias, General Manager of Chadwick Forklifts Pty Ltd regularly lends his support to the Orange Sky initiative.

Orange Sky provide an avenue for those in need to reconnect with the community at large through the provision of shower and laundry services. “Helping people most vulnerable and those who feel most disconnected from society has long been a passion and driving value of mine” states Shane.

Orange Sky operate in locations across Melbourne often adjacent to food provision services. As such, anyone can have a shower, have their clothes washed and dried and receive a hot meal. And just as importantly, they can interact with volunteers such as Shane creating a great humanistic connection and sense of self.

Shane openly shares his view that he “always gets more back than whatever he contributes; this is the nature of volunteer work and giving back”. He feels especially concerned about those most in need across the Xmas/holiday period. Shane believes “Christmas is a joyous period for many but is also one where many can experience feelings of loneliness, anxiety and despair”. He feels “it is extremely important to ensure we look out for those who most need assistance during this period”.
