ASSOCIATION

Differences exist within the industry in

each country due to specific economic

and social environments. This year many

countries are experiencing changes

in government administrations, with

unknown legislative or regulatory futures

ahead. Each individual spoke to the

performance of their rental industry.

Time was spent discussing approaches

to industry standards and best practices

for both rental businesses and with

manufacturers. Workplace labour issues

and member engagement programs were

highlighted. Membership engagement

is central to the associations; each is

striving to include young professionals in

leadership initiatives.

As an aspect of the GRA program

for young professionals, it was

mentioned this fall an Australian

rental representative will travel to the

Global Rental Alliance meets mid year

The Global Rental Alliance (GRA), made up of seven peer

equipment rental associations from throughout the world,

held its mid-year meeting via webinar in late-August with

participation of association executive staff.

United States to participate in the GRA

International Business Leadership

Program administered by the ARA

Foundation. This job shadow program

builds awareness of the importance of

equipment rental worldwide and the

value of networking on a global level. A

US representative traveled to Australia in

late spring for a similar opportunity.

Representatives identified topics for

further roundtable discussion at the 15th

annual meeting to be held 2 March, 2017

at The Rental Show in Orlando. A report

was received regarding interest from an

additional country to join the GRA; and

they will be in attendance in Orlando.

The countries shared information

regarding their annual conferences,

focusing on education/training, featuring

of equipment and networking events.

October to work with Tony Murray from

American Rentals in Long Beach, CA.

On 13 October Brandon headed south to

San Diego where he stayed with our 2015

US Candidate Ryan Thomas, and worked

in Ryan’s family business BJ Rentals.

On 20 October Brandon flew to Chicago

and attended the Annual ARA Leadership

Conference where he met with the ARA

Board of Directors and 65 other rental

industry professionals from around the

world. I’m looking forward to following

Brandon’s trip and hearing more about

his experiences in the US hire industry.

‘HIRE17’

Planning for HIRE17 is well underway.

After careful consideration and discussion

with industry members the destination

for HIRE17 will now be Sydney.

We will be launching a new conference

and display format for HIRE17. The

focus for HIRE17 will be an interactive

experience with strong education and

training along with a display showcase

of what is new to the hire marketplace.

The conference and display will be held

at the newly renovated Rosehill Gardens

Racecourse on 10–11 May 2017.

A working group comprising a broad

cross section of HRIA members has been

formed for industry consultation and

input on these industry event programs.

Working in this consultative framework

will ensure we are providing an event

that meets the industry’s needs.

While a new format of conference and

display will be launched for 2017 we will

be running our successful trade show and

convention in 2018. We look forward to

welcoming you to HIRE17 conference at

Rosehill Gardens on 10 – 11 May 2017.

The Year Ahead

Looking forward, there is no doubt the

next 12 months will continue to be a

competitive and challenging period in the

industry and the HRIA will be working

hard to deliver new initiatives to better

serve its members. Remember, everyone’s

participation in the Association is

important.

Please take the time to attend your state

meetings and work with your state

committees to raise concerns or to flag

new initiatives and ideas.

Thank you very much for your continued

support of the Association and our

industry.
