Laing O’Rourke and Select Plant Set New Emission Reduction Benchmark

Select Plant Australia, a leading plant hire and services industry supplier, along with its parent company, Laing O’Rourke, are taking bold steps to reduce emissions from off-grid site facilities. Their initiative aims to achieve a minimum 40% reduction in diesel consumption, with an eye toward exceeding 75% through innovative battery and solar solutions.

Over the past two years, Select has already successfully incorporated hybrid and solar-powered technologies into Laing O’Rourke projects, showcasing its effectiveness in curbing emissions and resource usage.

Nathan Mitschuinig, Select Business Unit Leader, expressed confidence in these new standards, stating, “We know these new standards are possible because we have seen significant emission reductions from using solar power for our off-grid sites in Western Australia and Victoria. Select is committed to reaching this ambitious goal and achieving operational net zero by 2030.”

Select has made substantial investments in ten hybrid generators and state-of-the-art solar technologies to support its sustainability objectives.

The new standard is expected to save a minimum of 500,000 litres of diesel annually, translating into AUD 1.4 million in yearly cost savings while mitigating 1,300 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
