ADVANCING THE RENTAL
INDUSTRY WORLDWIDE
The Global Rental Alliance (GRA)
met in mid-September last year. The
GRA discussed the market outlook
and business issues influencing the
industry, policy initiatives impacting
the rental environment and ways to
support members and promote the
rental concept throughout the world.
Progress was noted on common
initiatives, including industry statistics
and research, member services,
marketing and promotion of the
equipment rental industry. The group
received an update on the Global
Rental Alliance International Business
Leadership Program administered
by the ARA Foundation. The Alliance
will hold its 12th annual meeting
at The Rental Show in Orlando in
mid-February. The Global Rental
Alliance is a partnership among seven
independent rental/hire organisations
throughout the world.

NT had its second meeting in
Darwin in November and a committee
was formed. The committee intends
to hold another meeting in March
around the time of the Darwin Safety
In Action Show 19-20 March 2014 at
the Darwin Convention Centre.
QLD held its AGM at the XXXX
Brewery heritage building on
Wednesday, 6 November 2013. Jeremy
Shaw was re-elected as President and
congratulated for another full year of
meetings and venues.
VIC had its AGM on Thursday, 14
November 2013 at the Carlton United
Brewery. This included the Victorian
Awards. Jeff Bernard stood down as
President and Jarrod Kerr of Kerr’s
Hire was elected as the new President.
A big thanks to Jeff for an excellent
reign as VIC President and for his
invaluable input at the National level.

Standards Australia has
released a new version of
AS 1657 - 2013 Fixed platforms,
walkways, stairways and
ladders - design, construction
and installation.
The new standard will serve
to reduce ambiguity and give
guidelines for manufacturers,
and provide greater safety
in accessing of fixed ladders,
platforms and walkways.
“The publication of this new
edition is a result of working
with all stakeholders including
government and industry,” Dr
Bronwyn Evans, CEO, Standards
Australia said.

Dr Evans said certifiers
will have an up-to-date
set of requirements which
consistently addresses the
current accepted industry
practices and will make it much
easier to monitor and increase
industry conformance.
“This standard is all about
ensuring building sites provide
the optimal level of safety,” Dr
Evans said.
The standard was prepared
by the Standards Australia
Committee SF-013, platforms,
walkways, stairways and
ladders. Organisations on
the committee include:

Orion has launched its
enterprise solution Sirius e
with an SQL database for
rental, distribution and
services, to meet the needs of
medium to large businesses.
With its new touch screen-
based user interface, Sirius e
reduces the processes to their
simplest and most efficient
expression, Patrice Boivin,

includes a set of modules to

The new CAPS Kalgoorlie Branch located in Kakarra
Road, West Kalgoorlie
CAPS Australia (Compressed
Air and Power Solutions)
has relocated the company’s
Kalgoorlie branch to larger
premises at 25 Kakarra Road,
West Kalgoorlie.
Business growth has
motivated the search for a
larger space and modern
premises to accommodate the
company’s growing workforce
and provide a better service to
CAPS’ local customers.
The move reflects the
company’s growing presence in
the Kalgoorlie region, with the
Kakarra Road facility providing
