storms on record and it has caused

A website dedicated to dry and wet hire
machinery Dry Hire Online, developed
by Andrew Newsham, connects available
machinery with companies who can’t
afford to be waiting around on site.
The idea was born on a ridiculously hot
day in the Surat Basin, when Andrew and a
colleague were melting in the sun waiting
for a fitter to turn up, diagnose a broken-
down dozer, order the parts and return a
week later to fix.
It took four days to find a replacement
dozer to dry hire.
“While we were all joking about how
quickly we could fry an egg in the sun I
thought to myself, surely it can’t be that
hard to find machinery quickly and easily
rather than all us blokes sitting around
sweating time and money? We really
need a tool that will allow us to search for
machinery close by.”
Andrew and his team have refined the
idea over the past few years.
“We spoke to the ‘big-end of town’, as
well as single machine owners, trying to
develop a solution that would minimise
downtime and maximise cost efficiencies
for both sides of the fence,” Andrew said.
Access to thousands of dry and wet hire
machines is just a click of a button away
after Dry Hire Online launched its one-
stop-online-shop in early 2012.
“Customers can find machinery ranging
from mini diggers in Dalby QLD, to 363T
dump trucks in Kalgoorlie WA, and
everything in between.
“What makes us different is we’ve
been in the market the longest and
have built credibility with Tier 1 and
2 companies making Dry Hire Online
the trusted online partner for the
resources, civil and construction sector.
We deal with key decision makers
(superintendents, fleet managers, site
supervisors, contract managers, tender
managers, estimators, project
managers etc). The team at Dry Hire Online
provide unparalleled support and response
times connecting the industry in ways
others can’t.”
Hmily Shantala, DHO’s Sales and
Marketing Manager told us: “We
conducted extensive market research
and used it to develop prototype after
prototype before even getting close to
turning it into code.
“It’s been customised after talking
to hundreds of end users in mining,
construction, civil, demolition, agri,
landscaping and trades industries. That’s
what sets our site apart from others; our

Wacker Neuson contributed
generators and light towers to
support the reconstruction work in
the regions that were recently struck
by typhoon Haiyan that devastated
the Philippines late last year.
The machines are produced in the
company’s plant in Manila which was
not directly affected by the storm.
“We are deeply shocked at
the number of people who have
lost their lives. The extent of the
destruction is unbelievable. We are
very relieved our employees are all
safe and well,” Cem Peksaglam, CEO
of Wacker Neuson SE said.
On November 8th, the typhoon
initially made landfall at the island
of Samar, around 600kms southeast
of Manila and caused catastrophic
destruction.
Wacker Neuson donated five light
towers and five generators to the
Philippine Red Cross (PRC).
“We were able to benefit in this
acute situation from the light towers
and generators that Wacker Neuson
contributed on short notice. As our teams
are working day and night in the regions
where no or only limited sources of
electricity are available, the equipment is
very useful,” Maria Luz Asencio, Chapter
Administrator at the PRC said.
“This was one of the strongest tropical
users can be sure this isn’t a dodgy beta
site with bugs and problems.”
Chris Jonker - National Operations
Manager, Jonkers Hire said: “Andrew is
serious about connecting those who need
machines with those who have them
available, and we regularly receive Dry
Hire Online emails or phone calls as soon
as the leads come in.
“In the first two months since we
registered with Dry Hire Online, we
received over 10 leads as well as the
opportunity to tender for two significant
contracts. This is new business (over
$300,000) we wouldn’t otherwise have
received, so online is starting to add a
valuable dimension,” Chris said.
“A user-friendly and efficient site is
important to us. With Dry Hire Online
a machine can be listed in less than a
minute, and you can add as much or as
little information as you want to attract
people to it. We have attracted single
machine owners right through to the
bigger players such as D&M Plant Hire,
Orionstone, McFadyen, Salmon, Proquip,
RBG, Jim’s Diggers, etc,” Andrew said.
“Our website doesn’t show machine
rates because we don’t want to create
price wars and it allows the machine
owners to take the calls regarding
availability, so listings don’t need to be
constantly updated. You can update
them as little or as much as you like - we
provide flexibility to suit our customers.
And we don’t take cuts or commissions –
our pricing is upfront and transparent,”
Andrew said.
