“...the HRIA will be
commencing a serious
lobbying campaign
aimed at the new
federal government.
Our goal is to make
an amendment to the
PPSA legislation to
eliminate the
possibility of ‘theft
of hire equipment by
liquidator. ”
A lot has been happening
since the last edition of
the magazine - the change
of government being the
highlight. We are all keen
to see what changes this
government will introduce
to see if they can stimulate
confidence and business.
The HRIA has been working
hard on the Portable Toilet
Code of Practice and it is great
news for all concerned, not just
the portable toilet industry and
events industry, to say we are
very close to finalising this code
and releasing it to industry.
The Portable Toilet Code of
Practice (on construction
sites and at events where
connection to a sewer is not
practical) is a comprehensive
guide to the toilet types
permitted in each state;
minimum service frequency;
best practice for transporting;
state regulators and more. The
HRIA hopes to have the Code
available to members soon. It is
currently with respective state
bodies for comment.
The Cross Hire Agreement
is now available on the HRIA
website and is an important
document for all those who
cross and sub hire and need to
protect themselves from the
ramifications of the PPSA. Take
the time to download the cross
hire agreement information
now on the HRIA website.
While we’re on the subject
of the PPSA, the HRIA will be
commencing a serious lobbying
campaign aimed at the new
federal government. Our aim is
to make an amendment to the
PPSA legislation to eliminate
the possibility of ‘theft of hire
equipment by liquidator’.
And so we ask for assistance
from members. If anyone
has a good relationship with
their local federal Member
of Parliament contact the
HRIA national office for
an information pack. This
information pack provides all
the basic details of how you
can support your industry and
association in easy to use and
read forms for you to forward
on. All help will be of great
benefit to our industry. In
the mean time we all must
stay vigilant with regards our
equipment registrations and
debt management.
I recently traveled to Taupo
NZ for the HIANZ convention
as a representative of the HRIA
and found the NZ Convention
was once again well attended
by Aussies as well as hire
members and suppliers in NZ.
Congratulations to the NZ
association team for a well-run
few days. The economy in NZ
is on the improve and the vibe
was much more positive than
last year’s convention which is
great news. I look forward to
seeing a large contingent from
NZ at our convention next year.
Make sure you mark in
the diary the dates for our
convention next year. The
format has been changed again
and I am sure it will be the best
one ever with three full days of
equipment displays and hands
on demonstrations! Also think
seriously about nominating for
Hire Company of the Year, it is
a great initiative and you will
get a lot out of it, win or lose.
The other thing I am keen to
promote is the GRA leadership
program. Participating in
this program as a host hire
company or an exchange
student/hirer brings a wide
range of benefits and learning
opportunities and having
fulfilled the role of host myself
at Camden Hire, I only have
great things to say about the
experience.
To be a part of that valuable
experience, simply submit
an email to the HRIA office
expressing your interest so we
can get organised for next year.
I wish you all the best for the
festive season.
