Coates Hire is expanding its
fleet of motor graders with
the acquisition of eight new
Caterpillar 140M Motor Graders.
A versatile work tool, motor
graders are ideal for finish
grading, heavy blading, site
road maintenance, haul road
maintenance, side/bank slope
work and ditch building.
The key difference between
the 140M and its predecessor
the 140H is the joystick control
system which simplifies motor
grader operation and training
and reduces hand and wrist
movement by 78%.
The intuitive joystick control
pattern allows both new and
experienced operators to
become productive quickly.
Logical grouping of hydraulic
functions in the joysticks allows
any operator to control several
functions at the same time.
Coates Hire has taken delivery
of the units with Caterpillar’s
Accugrade Cross Slope System.
The basic cross slope system
automatically controls the slope
of the blade to maintain desired
surface cross slope. The system
makes automatic adjustments
to the left or right lift cylinder,
typically performed by the
operator.
Two recent purchases
of American firms by the
Toro Company will see new
products available to Australian
consumers in late 2012.
Toro recently purchased Astec
Underground, a manufacturer
of vibratory plows, trenchers
and horizontal directional drills.
These products are typically
used in installation, repair and
replacement of underground
utility infrastructure.
“The Astec products will
add a new, more specialised
equipment level to Toro’s
equipment range and help
Toro attract new customers and
provide business growth in this
sector,” Elise Willemsen, Toro’s

Toro has also acquired Stone
Construction Equipment, an
established manufacturer
of light construction and
hardscape product assets.
Their product lines include
concrete and mortar mixers,
material handlers, compaction
equipment and other concrete
power tools.

products under the Toro banner
will complement our range of
utility equipment and extend
Toro’s appeal,” Elise said.

HASTIE & THE PPSA
HRIA PPSA legal advisors, Bartier Perry
summed up the recent situation with
the Hastie Group and the PPSA.
"The administrators of Hastie
obtained Court orders allowing sale of
equipment, despite indications on the
PPS register and from Hastie's books
the equipment was owned by third
parties - including hire businesses.
“There were 995 PPS registrations
against Hastie and (surprisingly) most
of the gear thought to be owned by
third parties remained unclaimed even
after the administrators wrote to the
PPSR registered secured parties.
“Of course some of the equipment
may belong to parties who have not
made any registration, either because
they are unaware of PPSA, or because
they believe they have transitional
protection. The administrators can
now sell the equipment and after three
months can dissipate the proceeds.
“This case establishes / confirms
an administrator will be able to get
directions from the Court allowing the
sale of property owned by secured
parties and also be able to distribute
proceeds of the sale, if the owners
don't respond to the administrator's
requests or the administrator can't
determine who owns what property.
“We still await a Court decision about
the fate of equipment where there
has been no registration or a defective
registration.”
