New excavator models deliver fuel savings
The cab offers operator comfort,
with Kobelco’s industry leading iNDR
system delivering quiet operation
at just 93dB(A) (external) on both
models.
“Our unique iNDR – integrated
Noise and Dust Reduction - engine
cooling system is the secret behind
the quiet operation and we’ve also
added a stronger door lock on both
models to keep the dust out of the
cab,” Doug said.
“The rear swing radius has been
trimmed by 140mm to 1,650mm on
the 8-tonne SK85MSR-3 model, and
we’ve improved the dozer raising
and lowering margins,” he said.
The dozer height on the
SK85MSR-3 has been improved
from 475mm to 500mm, while its lowering
capability has been improved from 305mm
to 405mm. Dozer height on the SK75SR-3
model is 360mm, with a lowering capability
of 250mm.

collection tank, the air pump, water pump
and the Yanmar diesel engine. The air
pump which generates the vacuum to suck
up loose material is available in six different
models from 750cfm to 2800cfm capacity.
The most common Vacvator model has
a 750cfm air pump and a Yanmar 3TNV
diesel engine. In this configuration the air
compressor requires about 40hp to drive it
and the water pump needs 20hp.
The Yanmar drives the air pump
and water pump simultaneously via a
conventional belt drive set up. There is no
clutch in the drive system, just a power
take off drive plate supplied with the
Yanmar engine. Typically Vacvator units in
a civil construction or drilling situation will
operate fully loaded at 2800rpm for up to
16 hours a day
Power Equipment is the exclusive and

of Yanmar Marine and Industrial diesel

sailboat propellers, PSS Shaft Seals and
Electromaax products.

EXCAVATION
With fuel savings up to 27% and low
noise iNDR system, Kobelco’s two new
excavator models, the SK75SR-3 and
SK85MSR-3 replace the previous Series
2 models and feature a new ECO mode
for enhanced fuel efficiency.
“The new models can be operated
in H or S mode as well as the new ECO
mode. H mode is for heavy digging
and high productivity while S mode
offers standard digging while saving
fuel. ECO mode offers astonishing
savings with a colossal 27% reduction
in fuel use compared with S mode in
previous models,” Doug McQuinn,
Kobelco Australia Brand Leader said.
Both models feature two variable
displacement pumps, resulting
in improved performance and
productivity.
“Testing has shown a 6% improvement
in travel torque and a 10% improvement
in steering performance across both new
models, even when working at grades of up
to 14 degrees.”
Visibility on both models is assured, with
Goulburn based Vacvator manufactures
a range of vacuum hydro excavation
equipment and recently switched to
Yanmar as its exclusive engine of choice.
Vacvator specifies the Yanmar TNV series
of engines for use on the 3TNV or 4TNV.
Vacvator vacuum excavation equipment is
designed for use in potholing (a practice of
digging a test hole to expose underground
services), drilling processes, civil construction
Kobelco has launched its 7tonne SK75SR-3 and
8tonne SK85MSR-3 excavators
a wider glass panel on the right side of both
machines.
“On the SK85MSR-3, we’ve also modified
the left boom swing angle from 50 degrees
to 62 degrees, resulting in greater bucket
visibility,” Doug said.

projects and spill clean ups.
The fundamental process of the Vacvator
comprises a high pressure water pump
which blasts a jet of water at 2500psi via a
turbo nozzle. Simultaneously, an air pump
sucks up the water and residual matter
into a 100mm diameter hose which dumps
the spoil into a tank for disposal. Anything
that will run up the 100 mm hose can be
collected by the Vacvator.
