HRIA reminds members about National Safe Work Month during October, with resources available at Safe Work Australia to help support businesses.
Held annually throughout October, National Safe Work Month is Australia’s national campaign promoting safe and healthy work for all. This year’s theme, Safe Work is for Life, reinforces the importance of protecting workers’ health, safety and wellbeing throughout their entire working lives, not just preventing injuries in the moment.
The activity kit provides a practical framework for businesses to engage workers in meaningful conversations about workplace health and safety. It includes weekly activities, videos, discussion guides and resources that can be incorporated into toolbox talks, team meetings, safety committee discussions, training sessions and other workplace gatherings.
For hire and rental businesses, National Safe Work Month provides an ideal opportunity to reinforce safety culture, encourage worker participation and identify practical actions that can improve workplace outcomes.
Throughout the month, National Safe Work Month will explore 4 weekly focus areas:
- Week 1 (1-11 October): For life – why WHS matters
- Week 2 (12-18 October): For health – what WHS protects
- Week 3 (19-25 October): For the future – the long-term impact
- Week 4 (26-31 October): For all – action across all workplaces.
HRIA encourages members to download the activity kit and explore the range of resources available through the National Safe Work Month campaign. By starting conversations, involving workers and taking action, businesses can help create safer and healthier workplaces for life.
