ACCESS IN ACTION Snorkel expands range with RT telehandlers Snorkel has added a line of rough terrain telehandlers to its range, including the Snorkel SR626, SR1442, and SR1745 models. F irst introduced at World of Concrete 2018 in Las Vegas, USA, the compact Snorkel SR626 telehandler is capable of lifting up to 2,599kg, with a maximum lift height of 5.79m and a maximum forward reach of 3.2m. Designed to be simple and robust, it is very easy to service and maintain and delivers high levels of operator comfort. Weighing 4,700kg, the SR626 is fitted with a 70.3hp Tier 4 Final Yanmar diesel engine. At just 1.89m wide, compact dimensions make this model ideal for using in tight spaces. It is constructed from high-strength steel, with all frame welds completed on automated lines by robots for precision and consistency. Bauma 2019 marked the official launch, outside of North America, for two new telehandlers. Joining the Snorkel SR626, the new Snorkel SR1442 and SR1745 expand the Snorkel rough terrain telehandler line to three models. Branded as the SR9244 and SR1045 respectively in The Americas, the SR1442 and SR1745 telehandlers are manufactured in Italy. The sister units are cost competitive telehandlers that are feature- rich yet simple to operate and maintain. Equipped as standard with four-wheel drive and enclosed cabs with heat and air conditioning, the new SR1442 can lift up to 4,200kg, has a maximum lift height of up to 13.5m, and has a maximum forward reach of up to 9.5m. The larger SR1745 has a maximum lift height up to 16.4m, and a maximum forward reach of 12.6m, and can lift up to 4,535kg. Geared toward the construction sector, each telehandler is built with a powerful Deutz Tier 4 Final diesel engine and multiple driving modes. Additionally, these units are equipped with a new electronic transmission and axle. Its variable speed hydrostatic drive allows operators to adjust and more closely match speed and torque as required for each job. The rough terrain telehandlers have a three-section boom that are wear pad mounted to provide durability and reliability when handling heavy loads. Outriggers and auto-leveling capabilities come as standard. A frame sway up to 11° helps keep the machines steady while operating in tough environments. Proportional joystick controls and power-assisted steering also help increase safety and ease of use in rough terrain. Ergonomically designed for ultimate operator comfort, the telehandler units feature fully enclosed cabs with heating and air conditioning and allows maximum visibility in all operating conditions. The Snorkel telehandlers are fitted with adapters that can be customised with a range of attachments. Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2019, Snorkel boasts more than 50 products, six manufacturing plants on four continents, and over 200 distribution locations worldwide. All Snorkel lifts and telehandlers come with a five- year structural warranty, plus a two-year warranty for parts and labour. Known for his drive and determination, Art’s career set an extraordinary example and left a lasting impact on the global work at height industry. His imaginative designs and pursuit for quality helped to shape the industry in its infancy and set standards still followed to present day. Developing 17 industry- defining models in less than a decade, Art built the foundation for Snorkel, today a global manufacturer of aerial lifts. He was probably most well-known for the Snorkel TB-42 telescopic boom which became a standard in the industry for many years, as well as the introduction of the first ‘big boom’ which reached 126ft (38m). His vision will continue to influence the company he started 60 years ago and the industry he changed for the better with his innovations. Over the years, Art’s industry contributions were recognised with honours including the International Awards for Powered Access Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016, and induction into the American Rental Association’s Hall of Fame in 2017. Following the acquisition of Snorkel by Don Ahern in October 2013, Art became a Snorkel board member providing his global insight and product knowledge. Don Ahern, said: “For many years, Art Moore was a mentor to myself and others in the early years of the access rental and dealership business, and he ultimately became a close friend. He will be a great loss to Snorkel and the wider industry, and I send my sincere condolences to Sue and family at this difficult time.” Art is survived by his loving wife, Sue, and his daughter, Melissa Moore and husband Aaron Snyder; son, Arthur Jr; daughter, Kristyn Sanders; stepdaughter, Lourenda Block; and grandchildren, Zen Moore, Aubrey and Ainsley Sanders. Art’s legacy extends beyond his outstanding achievements in the access industry. He lived for adventure, traveling around the globe, and never shying away from adrenaline with friends and family by his side. n Snorkel founder Arthur Deshon Moore: 1924 – 2019 P44 HIRE AND RENTAL NEWS AUGUST 2019
