Being a part of this
international hire
forum is an excellent
opportunity to
broaden our reach
and scope as the key
representative body
for the hire industry in
Australia...”
Well, it’s been another typical
Australian summer moving
from devastating bushfires to
floods in a couple of weeks.
It’s at times like these I hear
so many good stories about our
industry. Many of our members
go above and beyond the
call of duty to supply, donate
and assist those in need. You
all know who you are and
certainly your communities
know who you are – you are
the backbone of our industry
and what makes our industry,
as a whole, so valuable and
valued.
In February I travelled with
quite a few other Australians
to the ARA (American Rental
Association) Convention in
Las Vegas. The show, as usual,
was professionally run with a
great equipment display and
excellent speakers. It is always
interesting to see the size and
scope of the American market
and compare equipment and
services.
While there, HRIA National
Operations Manager, James
Oxenham, Kennards Hire’s
Peter Lancken and myself
attended the annual Global
Rental Alliance (GRA) meeting
with GRA representatives from
Brazil, Canada, Europe, New
Zealand, the UK and the USA.
This was an excellent
meeting where we discussed
benchmarking, the ARA’s
telematics program, and the
ARA leadership program. The
forum also discussed the need
to start to tackle issues with
suppliers on a global front.
If you get a chance have a
look at the GRA website:
Being a part of this
international hire forum is
an excellent opportunity to
broaden our reach and scope as
the key representative body for
the hire industry in Australia.
It introduces new concepts and
information and it is great to
know we have the support of
like associations worldwide.
The PPSA continues to be
a thorn in the hire industry’s
side and unhappily we do not
have any good news to impart
following our meetings late
last year with the Attorney
General and various Ministers
of Parliament in Canberra.
Refer to the update story inside
this issue of Hire and Rental
News for the full report and be
aware we are fast approaching
that time where we as an
industry need to stand as one
to make our issues with this
legislation heard at a federal
political level.
The draft National Code of
Practice for Portable Toilets is
now in place and an industry
committee is working at
making this national Code of
Practice a reality. Well done to
all those committed members
striving to create this industry
benchmark. That will be a big
achievement once it is finalised.
At this stage, the Association
anticipates a completion date
for this code by the end of the
year – or sooner. And then we
come full circle to the annual
event of the year – the HRIA
Convention – this year to be
held at Luna Park, Sydney.
I hope you are booked in
and ready for some great
networking and the chance
to see the latest and greatest
in equipment and services. I
know our supplier members are
ready for the event with the
exhibition completely sold out
last year. Book in today and get
to know why the hire industry
in Australia is such a great
industry to belong to.
