The draft National Code of Practice for
portable toilets is underway with the HRIA
forming a national committee to finalise
the Code of Practice.
The Code of Practice, when finalised, will
set minimum standards for portable toilets
including manufacture, delivery and
collection, on-site use and servicing.
Particular emphasis will be placed on
hygiene and safety for the public and users
and also the personnel who transport,
service and maintain these units.
This code specifically applies to portable
toilets not connected to a sewerage
system. It specifies the requirements of the
services relating to the use of the portable
toilets taking into account hygiene, health
and safety.
It specifies minimum quality
requirements relating to construction of
the unit, sanitary products, cleaning
requirements and servicing standards.
It also gives guidance on location
options and the number of units required.
According to Phil Newby, Chief Executive
Officer of the HRIA, this Code of Practice
has been developed by the industry for the
industry.
It has evolved from extensive research
into existing guidelines, regulations,
standards at state, national and
international levels and will be reviewed
regularly by the HRIA Steering Committee
to ensure it reflects current knowledge and
practice.
The Steering Committee has been
formed to help ensure we, as an industry,
get the definitions right; and the servicing
requirements right and to ensure we cover
all bases to ensure the best possible code
Formit Services has launched the X-PAC
single-skinned budget model which was
designed for the ASEAN market.
Formit is also producing a new range of
portable toilet models designed for the
Australian climate and market and will be
available later this year.
With the commissioning of our in-house
thermoforming machine in 2012, Formit
developed a diversified range of products
including the new heavy-duty poly desks
and shower recesses using new sanitary
grade acrylics technology.
Our range of portable toilet
treatment products was successfully
launched in 2012 and continues to be
one of the strongest and most successful
treatment products on the Australian
market,” Formit’s James Robertson said.
Included in the range are the
deodoriser products, Ultra Fresh Bio and
Plus which have been created using the
latest technology from the US. Also in
the range is Graffix, a graffiti removal
solution for use on portable toilet fleets,
and fresh fragrance scent discs to mask
stubborn odours,” James said.
With our vertically integrated
manufacturing processes, Formit can
customise products to suit, rather than
trying to adapt overseas models to our
customer’s needs. We can manufacture
and deliver large fleet orders in weeks.
The Formit Ultra model has one of the
largest waste tank capacities in the
market, and can withhold the large

important to the HRIA to draft and
develop this code for the industry; to
provide governance for our own industry
now, so we can continue to provide best

The HRIA anticipates the Code of
Practice will be complete and ready for
implementation within six months.
