The Cross Hire
Agreement has been
designed for
agreements between
rental companies to
cover them for re-
hire or sub hire and
give some protection
to the owners of the
hired equipment. Re-
hire or sub hire is a
key part of this indus-
try and needs to be
legally covered. ”
And so here we are in the
middle of the year, EOFY over
and done; changes to Privacy
laws now in effect; and another
industry Convention behind
us – one that was a roaring
success in a beautiful location.
How amazing were the
photos of our event? What a
wonderful showcase for our
industry and equipment! If you
haven’t already gone online to
view the photo galleries and
videos from our Convention,
get to the HRIA website soon.
I want to personally
congratulate all the winners
of this year’s awards. There
is a huge amount of effort
involved in a nomination for
Rental Company of the Year
and everyone that participated
deserves recognition for their
commitment to excellence.
But we can all be sure the
benefits and rewards of
participating are also great,
with the valuable input from
independent assessors (the
judges) providing instant
feedback on areas for
improvement. If you’ve never
considered entering, 2014
might be a good time to start.
I want to take the time
here and now to thank all
the delegates, exhibitors and
visitors to the show who took
the time and effort to fill in
the Convention Survey. Your
input has all been considered
and reviewed, providing great
insights into how we can
improve for coming years.
As you all know, we
are returning to the Gold Coast
in 2014 and the Exhibition
will be held at the Gold Coast
Convention and Exhibition
Centre (GCCEC) over three
days, including both indoor and
outdoor displays and
demonstrations. The plan
for 2014 is to allow more time
for displays, exhibitor viewing
and demos, plus we will hold
seminars with keynote speakers
and workshops each day.
In other industry news, the
first meeting of the newly
formed HRIA Code of Practice
-
Portable Toilets Committee
took place on Tuesday, 25 June
in Melbourne. There was good
input from all members of this
new committee and headway
on how to move forward was
made. We hope to have the
final draft of a national Code
of Practice ready within the
next few months which will be
a big step forward. Once we‘re
there, we can seek association
member comments. Self-
regulation is the best way to
achieve acceptable levels of
safety and service.
While we’re on the topic
of regulation the HRIA is still
struggling to make progress
with politicians on having
the PPS Act changed. But on
the good news front, our
association has not been idle
and has been working on a
PPSA Cross Hire Agreement.
This has been put
together with much help
from a number of our
major members plus Bartier
Perry, our legal advisors on
this matter. The Cross Hire
Agreement has been designed
for agreements between rental
companies to cover them for
re-hire or sub hire and give
some protection to the owners
of the hired equipment. Rehire
or sub hire is a key part of
this industry and needs to
be legally covered. The Cross
Hire Agreement is designed
for members only to be used
when the plant being hired
to a fellow hire company
is then being hired out to
the customer. It will replace
the normal Hire or Master
Agreement. Members can
find more information and
instructions on this important
subject at the HRIA webpage.
